|“||People here kept us out in the cold, lettin' us starve to death while they sat inside, warm and fed. Then the Dorseys came, and gave me some food and some kindness, and asked me to do some vandalism.
Figured, what was the harm? I never killed no one, but I did bust some windows.
Austin Pease is a character in Wasteland 3.
The teenage prisoner is gaunt and pale. His hair is tousled and greasy, his face angular with hunger. He stares at the pillories with dread, swallowing occasionally.
Pease and his mother came to Colorado Springs to seek refuge from the Plains gangs that destroyed their farm and wiped out their family. Dreams of living in the big city were crushed by the harsh reality: They were forced to make do with little warmth or food, marginalized and ignored by long time denizens of the city.
When the Dorseys came, they offered Austin food in return for running interference, breaking a few windows and distracting the Marshalls. Austin accepted, and as expected, he was caught by the Marshals. Now he is facing the death penalty, ordered by Magistrate Silas Watkins, for aiding the Dorseys. He plans to go out like a man - though exposure will hurt.
