Cover is one of the basic combat mechanics of Wasteland 2. Visible in combat thanks to the icon shown on the right, cover conveys a:
- flat +10% bonus to chance to hit with ranged weapons
- a +50% bonus to evasion.
Correctly utilizing cover is essential to surviving late-game engagements, particularly against high damage creatures like the Scorpitron 2.0. Note that some types of cover, like wooden crates, can be destroyed by explosives or sustained fire. Some types of cover can also be explosive, doing more harm to a Ranger than good.
Cover bonus is ignored while enemy is moving, so you can use ambush to obstruct their movement and to hit a moving enemy without cover bonus.
