Summary[]
Theodoric Curie would ask the Rangers to help him figure out how to turn the Holy Detonation kept beneat the Air Force Academy Ruins into a reliable source of power. If successful, his project would allow Colorado Springs to free itself from the whims of the Gippers. However, he needs specifications: Curie's heard that old world scientists did nuclear research in this area before the war, but the only facility he's found has been the Holy Detonation. Elijah Ward woul call the Rangers and arrange a meeting at his estate, asking them to find the specifications at Cheyenne Mountain, but delivering them to him first, so that he can modify them to shut the detonation down permanently and ensure it would never spiral out of control.
The Rangers would gain the specifications at Cheyenne Mountain (also dealing with the FADERs), and at this point would have to decide whether to bring them straight to Curie or to Ward. In the first case, Curie would invite them to witness turning the Detonation into a nuclear power station, granting full independence from the Gippers. In the latter, the Detonation would shut down, breaking Curie down, but preventing a vague future threat to Colorado Springs.
The quest was lopsided towards Curie's side and was eventually cut from the game, along with Cheyenne Mountain and numerous other locations. It was later recycled into Cult of the Holy Detonation, moving the Detonation to Cheyenne and providing - finally - an option for wiping out the Gippers without having to violently overthrow the Patriarch.
