In-game map

Florida is a former constituent state of the United States of America.

The following is based on Fountain of Dreams. It was never officially part of Wasteland and after three decades, it's unlikely to be.

Background[ | ]

During the nuclear war that destroyed the world, bombardment triggered a fault like, separating it from the mainland. In isolation, the island's inhabitants mutated, developing bizarre cultures and banding into survivalist groups - many of them strange and bizarre.

In-game[ | ]

In fact, after The Change, Florida is mostly called the part of the peninsula surrounded by Mickey's Wall. The rest of Florida is almost completely destroyed and not inhabited by anyone except for numerous mutants. New Florida (if I may say so) consists of Miami and its environs. At the start of the game, most of Florida is also patrolled by Killer Clowns and their units, some of which are looking for the Fountain of Dreams - the race to find which began shortly before the start of the game. Also the second large but almost deserted part of Florida after The Change is the Everglades (Floridians prefer to call it simply Glades) which is the main home of the mutants as well as the sentient mutant humanoids that have settled in the Mutant Commune. Only they know where the Fountain of Dreams is. Rumor has it that Miami's Beachcombers are kidnapping OhOh cultists to sell them there in exchange for Water of Dreams.

History[ | ]

Being separated from the mainland, Florida lost contact with it. Residents of Florida are sure that there is no worthy civilization left outside the island.

Soon, terrible mutations began to appear more often, and crazy Killer Clowns were added to the threats, who began to terrorize the island and almost took it under their control. Also around this time, Mickey's Wall was erected over Miami and its environs, protecting the island from mutations.

There is a legend: somewhere in Everglades there is a magical fountain, the waters of which cure any mutations, restoring health and human appearance. The Clowns and residents of a small village in Miami County became interested in the veracity of this legend almost immediately.

Soon the danger of clowns was completely eliminated by these people, who eventually found the fountain and saved Florida from extinction.
