The M19 rifle is a Rifle skill weapon in Wasteland.
Background[]
When rumors of a Soviet invasion of the U.S. spread through the states, survivalists demanded a weapon that could use Soviet ammo (necessary, said the survivalists, if Americans were to be able to use captured ammo). The invasion never took place, but the M19 remains a high-profile weapon. Although it can't fire more than one bullet at a time, it does have greater range than pistols.
Characteristics[]
A single shot rifle with good range.
Notes[]
- It's unclear if this weapon has a real counterpart and if it has then which weapon it would be. It is believed that it may be the M1 Garand because it has a similar ammo calibre and capacity and is single-fire only. One argument against this being the M1 is the ammo is the same as the assault rifles, which are explicitly firing Russian 7.62mm rounds; if these are the same as the AK47 (which the AK 97 assault rifle is based on), then the calibre is 7.62x39mm. .30-06 ammo is different (and also distinct from 7.62x51mm NATO rounds).
- The US used to be flooded with cheap SKS carbines (As of around 2018~, they got more expensive and rare), but those weren't new rifles and they held 10 rounds, not 8. The SKS was for decades a fairly popular survivalist's gun.
