Wasteland Wiki

Old World Power is a cut quest in Wasteland 3.

Summary[]

Two young scientists, Theodoric Curie and Megan Silver, describe local legends of an old-world energy source in the ruins of the Air Force Academy. If the legends are true, they think this technology could be harnessed to power Colorado Springs, bypassing the troublesome Gippers entirely... or at least giving them far less control over the fate of the city. However, the ruins are dangerous, and they need help from the Rangers to discover the truth.

The Rangers would discover a cult obsessed with nuclear science beneath the Academy, and would be forced to clear them out of their temple in order to secure the Holy Detonation, a nuclear explosion kept in stasis. As the cultists would attempt to destabilize it and blow Colorado Springs to hell, the Rangers would be forced to wipe them out to stabilize it - and destroy computers used to trigger the detonation.

Completing the quest would lead to Energy Independence, an alternate source of power for Colorado Springs. The quest was cut from the base game and later recycled into Cult of the Holy Detonation. It's likely that it was too simplistic: Clearing out the cultists and siding with Theo over Ward was an optimal outcome with virtually no downsides, against the core themes of Wasteland 3.

The ruins are located to the north of Colorado Springs.
Be careful! The ruins are rumored to be in poor shape and swarming with danger.
Testing a thing Theodoric Curie has died. Even if we were to find the power source, its mysteries would be unsolvable without his technical expertise.
The cultists are gone, and the power source is secured. We should let Curie know what we found. He should be near the entrance to the Ruins.
We've destroyed the cultists and discovered the Holy Detonation. Curie asked us to help him figure out how to tap the power of the Holy Detonation as a source of energy for Colorado Springs.
We should return to the Temple underneath the Air Force Academy and ensure there are no more cultists to harass Theo and Megan while they work.
We'd found and secured Theo's rumored power source before he'd even asked. He's got a little more work for us, though.
We've descended into some tunnels beneath the ruins. They appear to be controlled by an unusual cult that's obsessed with nuclear science.
The cultists have been cleared out of their temple, but in order to secure the Holy Detonation, the rest of the facility need to be cleared of their madness
The Cultists are attempting to destablize the in-stasis nuclear explosion! The resulting blast would wipe out Colorado Springs. We need to destroy the computers they've used to trigger the detonation.
