Red Ryder Range Model Air Rifle is a sniper rifle in Wasteland 3.

Description[]

Has a compass in its stock and a mysterious inscription: 'Alwa nasci korliri das.'

Characteristics[]

Damage can be increased from various bonuses. However, it is not recommended to waste high-tier mods on this weapon, due to low damage output. Especially not recommended to use rare and expensive damage type conversion mods. The exception is if you want to create a powerful debuffer sniper - the rifle's innate +20% strike rate allows for creating a 50% strike rate character with either Punk Lovers or Lucia Wesson and their SR bonus. As such, the air rifle will deal low damage, but be able to cause powerful debuffs every three shots or so. It is also worth noting that through precision strikes, many enemies (such as all Steeltown workers, Enemies wielding a fuel tank, as well as vehicles) have a chance of being killed or incapacitated (or being reprogrammed to fight on the Ranger's side) as a critical effect, of which that chance can be drastically increased by picking up the Masterful Precision perk. This makes the Red Ryder deceptively lethal despite its poor stats, albeit only against a subset of enemies. The Red Ryder also synergizes extremely well with the Draw! perk due to having a magazine size of one, allowing a feedback loop of firing, immediately reloading, and then only paying the cost of reloading going forwards (at 2 AP to reload, which can also be reduced to 1 AP reloads using the Icon Mod AdvancedMaterialsMag Advanced Materials Mag).

Physical damage maximization example
Applying all bonuses (+16 Damage +93% Ranged damage) leads to the following result:
  • 81 - 100 damage in weapon stats.
The damage dealt to targets will depend on the armor they are wearing and the armor penetration rate on your character.

Trivia[]

  • The inscription and weapon itself are a reference to the Martian Paragraphs in Wasteland, with the inscription being translated to "Keep your powder dry" in Martian, and the Warlord remarking to the player character that "I realize this is not as good as having a Red Ryder Range Model Air Rifle with a compass in the stock, but it's the best we can do."
  • The Blinded effect is a reference to the 1983 film A Christmas Story, in which the protagonist wishes for a Red Ryder BB gun, but is repeatedly warned that "You'll shoot your eye out."
