Research Level is a location in Wasteland 3: Cult of the Holy Detonation.

Background[]

Once Cheyenne's primary lab. Now used by the Nucleists to perform radiation experiments. Notable for a vending machine that hasn't been serviced since 1989.

Points of interest[]

  • The main corridor leading to the area foreshadows the primary threat here: Toxic waste. You can interact with the vending machine to get a note from vending machine (it's 3-D, if you wonder), and then head on eastwards to fight through the long container storage corridor. In the corner, you can find a massive pile of shit that connects to the hole in Boris and Natasha's quarters. Wading into the center of the pile nets a Kalash 97, random junk, and a cassette tape, R&D Meeting No. 783. Nearby is a level 8 locked garage door that leads to the hydraulics machine operating the particle accelerator. With Mechanics 7, you can identify it as the place where you can pour things and break it severely. Another container is filled with hydrogen and requires Mechanics 8 to properly fix the fuse box. It contains the other R&D Meeting No. 783 tape. Another diggable in the are contains the nucleist patrol log.
  • Another container contains the grimy note, which hints where to find the Hazmat armor set (the container near the mound of shit). The hazmat set allows for safely wading into holy radiation.
  • Once you're through, there's a large biological laboratory to the south, with your old pal, The Prisoner from Peterson AFB, there (if you let him out). He'll confess to slaughtering the refugees at Steeltown, and will provide a steady supply of mushrooms if you barter with him (you can just not ask what he's been up to).
  • Remember to collect the Tune of tumors cassette from the locker and the Particle accelerator keycard. You can also raid the planters here for a horse mushroom, panther mushroom, and destroying angel mushroom. The adjacent storage room has the Ragnashock and DLC crafting components in a level 8 locked container.
  • The far eastern door is locked (Picklock 6 required) and contains a clone laboratory with a broken level 9 toaster (contains headphones crafting component and a Memo from Cheyenne researcher). The level 7 locked door to the south has a container with some ketchup and a Special Sauce recipe (the ketchup is required for the 1000 Islands sauce that can be used to sabotage the particle accelerator). The computer console can be manipulated with Nerd Stuff 8 to go through the logs of one Finster Jr (son of Irwin John Finster) and reveal a hidden part of the clone lab. The clone lab has a recipe for the elite pre-war helmet, more DLC crafting components. You can use the console to create something, but this requires a Vial of advanced DNA (acquired from the clone iteration chamber just before; you need Nerd Stuff 8 to acquire it, but don't worry about the clone iteration project running since 1998, they don't mind). Cloning without purging the hopper of one of Proteus' flesh tumors will generate the Flesh Prince pet and an achievement. Otherwise, the machine is non-responsive.
  • The door north from the storage area leads to the main particle accelerator chamber, which is a puzzle in its own right. To get at the voltage regulator for the High Voltage quest, you'll need to destroy three of the four particle beam cannons to force the accelerator to rise. What's worse, one of the Rangers will have to throw the particle cannon switch once the guns are destroyed, and the rest will have to destroy it while dealing with increasing levels of radiation in the main chamber.   • The door south from the storage area leads to Mycology Lab.
