It's the Hispanic Heritage Month at FANDOM! It's worth noting that Wasteland, 33 years ago, was one of the first games to allow players to create Hispanic characters with the nationality selection. What's more, the starting Hispanic character, Snake Vargas, eventually became one of the most important movers and shakers of the Arizona wasteland, saving the world twice over as a Desert Ranger! If you're interested in learning more about Hispanic heritage and how it's featured in modern entertainment, join the official Fandom HHM Discord server!

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Russian: Сою́з Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик, tr. Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik) was the principal opponent of the United States of America on the world stage and one of the main actors of the 1998 nuclear war that turned the entire world into a wasteland. The Soviet Union was the leader and primary driving force of the Comintern Combine, building a counterbalance to the American Empire established by the United States in the wake of the Drug Wars that gave them de facto control of the Americas. Arming various resistance and guerrilla movements across the globe, the Soviet Union eventually became part of the Great War triggered by the Cochise AI when Citadel Starstation sent fake signal about nuclear strike from Soviet ICBM. However before USSR and its allies was bombardment they destroyed American space platform, making sending broadcast of AI's sourcecode to all systems at the world impossible and probably saving the world from malevolent electronic creature.

Technology[]

Soviet technology is rare in the wastelands, however some of their weapons can be found: Marakov pistol, PP-81 machine pistol, SVD sniper rifle, the legendary AK-47 and the next generation of it called AK-97. There is, however, no evidence of Soviet machines in the former Arizona, California or even Colorado (with the sole exception of the crashed Soviet space station near the Yuma County race track).

Trivia[]

  • As late as 2087, people of Russian descent could be found in the United States wasteland.[1]
  • Alexey Chuklin, a Highpool merchant, is a reference to a real-world Russian race car driver of the same name.
