Unwelcome Guests is a quest in Wasteland 3.

Background[]

Gideon Reyes, the head of one of the Hundred Families, has offered his services as an advisor, if we help him with a problem that he says affects the future of Colorado Springs. Gideon Reyes is afraid Colorado Springs can't support any more refugees. He's asked us to travel to the Bizarre - a traders' market to the east - and find a way to stop the human traffickers there who are smuggling the refugees into the city.

Walkthrough[]

  • Once you've dealt with the Dorseys at the Garden of the Gods, you will receive a radio call from Gideon Reyes, head of the family, along with an invitation to Broadmoor Heights. In the uptown district, talk to Gideon and he will reveal that he's concerned Colorado Springs can't support any more refugees. He'll asked you to travel to the Bizarre - a traders' market to the east - and find a way to stop the human traffickers there who are smuggling the refugees into the city.
  • Head over there (testing out the world map if you haven't already), then search the area outside the Bizarre to find the smugglers. Ananda Rabindranath can help you locate them by speculating that if he was a bad neighbor, he'd tell people to investigate the car park to the north.
  • They're located in the northern area of the map. Fight the people smugglers (Lewis Stenerud and his henchmen are a very difficult fight), then open the locked door with Lewis' key to find Carmen. Carmen and the other refugees are in danger of freezing or starving to death. You can promise them to find help inside the Bizarre. If you promise to help, you receive an instant +5 reputation with refugees, but keep in mind that it locks you into the Bizarre area: If you leave the Bizarre map for the world map, they will die.
  • To find help, head inside the market and talk to Pareidolia Jones. He will be willing to transport the refugees in return for a "small" fee of $300 Patriarchbucks. You can skip that with a rubber ducky (found in the snow outside, near the clown dentist. You must also ask Long John or Masato about the people in the Bizarre to "persuade" Pareidolia Jones with the rubber ducky down to $100 Patriarchbucks) or Kiss Ass 7.
  • This will make Carmen come clean. According to Carmen, a woman named Mama Cotter hired the smugglers to illegally sneak refugees into Colorado Springs. She was supposed to meet the refugees near the city gate. Mama is found near the Arapaho garage at Downtown Colorado Springs.
  • Mama Cotter will confirm Carmen's information, while revealing that she plans on continuing this as long as she's out. She thanks you for well taking care of those refugees hence +5 relation.
    • You can choose to arrest her, which is an instant -15 to wastelander refugee reputation, or let her continue her activities.
    • Handing her over to the Marshalls turns the Cotter family hostile. Because this doesn't actually initiate combat, you can avoid the combat entirely with sufficiently long detection time. However, the rest of the game will play out like you've killed the Cotters.
  • What's left is reporting to Gideon at Broadmoor.
    • If you arrested Cotter, you will receive a major boost to Hundred Families' reputation, garage mechanics from the Arapaho, and Gideon as a political adviser.
    • If you refused to, Gideon will be quite annoyed with your conduct. You lose reputation with the Families, but Mama Cotter will provide the best mechanics she can find among the refugees.

The Lewis Stenerud Fight[]

  • Lewis will give you a warning to turn back at the bridge, stating he has enough firepower to end you and that it would be best for you to turn back. After crossing the bridge you will have a few spaces to move freely before you get forced into a dialogue with Lewis. The dialogue will begin once you are one space behind the small crate on the left. This leaves some time to prepare, and an opportunity to snipe one of the targets before hand.
  • There is a generator powering two turrets in the center of the area. The turrets cover both the left and right flanks and are capable of shooting far enough to target your squad behind cover at the entrance.
  • There is one enemy smuggler with a rocket launcher. Every few turns he will fire it like a mortar onto one of your squad mates. After two turns (it lands at the start of your second turn) the mortar will hit causing an AoE of massive damage. It is possible to move out of the area of effect to completely avoid damage. Enemies caught in the AoE are also effected.
  • In Supreme Jerk Mode, all enemy smugglers are equipped with an infinite supply of med hypos.
