Bot flag[]

Bot flag for trusty old PorterBot, please :) -- Porter21 (talk) 09:31, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Interwiki links should have been taken care of here. At The Vault I was planning a cleanup of the interwiki table (loads of Wikia junk in there) later this week anyway, so I'm going to include these changes then. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:05, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Could you please check whether the copyright stuff in {{Copyright WL1}}, {{Copyright WL2}} and {{Copyright FOD}} is correct? I'm not really in the know regarding the rights to the series. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:42, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

mw:Extension:Math is not installed. Should I create a list with all this stuff somewhere so it's easier to keep track of? -- Porter21 (talk) 14:16, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

I'll make a list with "missing" extensions and config settings which need to be changed both for The Vault and this wiki. By the way, what do you think about activating the new MW editor for both wikis?
On a somewhat related note, maybe we should briefly discuss the setup for the blog extension and include it in the list? Might be more convenient for the Curse techs if they can do everything in one go rather than having to do things bit by bit. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:05, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
Complete list of maintenance scripts to be run, config settings to be changed and extensions to be installed for both wikis can be found at User:Porter21/sandbox 1. I've included WikiEditor since I don't see a real reason not to use it; it's the default editor on Wikipedia these days and the users who don't like it can switch it off via their preferences.
As mentioned above, we might also want to include the Wikilog extension to make this sort of a "last request for a while" thing (except for the forums, which is a different matter as I understand it). If we want to do that, we'll need to discuss the setup first though, and I think it'd be good to include GA in that discussion.
Finally, in the sandbox I've added $wgCaptchaClass = 'MathCaptcha'; for both wikis. I'd prefer to use $wgCaptchaClass = 'FancyCaptcha'; (that's the setting used by Wikipedia and Wikia), but I'm not sure whether the Python Imaging Library is (or can be) installed on the Curse servers. If that's the case, please use 'FancyCaptcha' instead. On a side note, you should really talk to the Curse techs about changing all Curse-hosted wikis to either of these Captcha options; the default one is a piece of cake for even the most simplistic spam bots, and it being in use is one of the major reasons why all Curse-hosted wikis are heavily suffering from automated spam. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:00, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
Anything but the basic one, to be honest. Asirra sounds like a good option; I was just looking for ones which could be installed easily. -- Porter21 (talk) 21:25, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
CollapsibleNav got activated along with Extension:Vector (hence the screwiness of the navigation). Needs turning off :) -- Porter21 (talk) 22:00, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
Oh, and Extension:WikiEditor is not installed. Not sure whether that's intentional (or still in progress). -- Porter21 (talk) 22:09, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Is that a new default one? Did I do my one wrong? Φύλαξ [~μίλησε μου~] 20:00, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Bumble already uploaded a new one; not sure which one Guardian is referring to though. The favicon was changed three times today (to the new Curse default, then to Guardian's version and finally to Bumble's latest version); browsers cache these rather stubbornly, so it's no telling who's seeing which one.
The most recent one is a red "2" (just so people can check whether they're seeing it or still have one of the previous versions cached). -- Porter21 (talk) 00:47, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

Skin issue[]

Hmm, works fine in Chrome for me. Are you using any gadgets? Which search option are you using (site default or simpleSearch)? -- Porter21 (talk) 01:09, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

Could you take another screenshot where I can see the search box as well? -- Porter21 (talk) 01:14, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
And, are you having the same issue on the Vault with simpleSearch ("enhanced search suggestions") disabled? I still can't reproduce it, it works fine with both search options for me (in Chrome). -- Porter21 (talk) 01:16, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Seems the Mac version of Chrome renders the non-simpleSearch input box and buttons differently than the Windows version - the Mac version's are smaller and look different (in Windows there are no rounded corners etc). Hence the page action tabs are shifted to the right since their position depends on the width of the search box container (whereas the position of the toolbox doesn't). I'll have it fixed in a few minutes. -- Porter21 (talk) 01:24, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Should be fixed now here. If the fix works, I need to do some more cross-browser testing before rolling it out on the Vault. -- Porter21 (talk) 01:43, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
I've done a larger rework of the non-enhanced search to avoid potential issues when using a non-English interface language and rolled it out both on The Vault and here. Could you take another screenshot of that (preferably one where the autocomplete is showing) so I can see whether things are working properly? I've done the basic cross-browser testing but since I don't have a Mac I can't really test it with that. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:40, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. Looks like it should. -- Porter21 (talk) 21:09, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Taking a break[]

Ausir, I thought I ought to tell you that I will be taking a break from the Vault and here for some time, until mid-June to be precise, in order to pass my exams. I thought I should tell you, but if you need me, just drop me a message, I'll still chack daily :) Φύλαξ [~μίλησε μου~] 16:56, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Bot rights[]

Hi. Can you give bot rights to my account User:Agricola? --Winterheart 17:44, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Did you not like mine? I spent quite some time on it, but I guess the 2 is not unexpected... Φύλαξ [~μίλησε μου~] 20:55, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

So will there be a vote then? Φύλαξ [~μίλησε μου~] 23:26, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Something's wrong with the SpamBlacklist configuration on this wiki - any addition of external links to pages is being blocked (not just the addition of blacklisted links). It's fine on The Vault. -- Porter21 (talk) 07:23, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

I've white-listed (via MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist) any and all domains as an interim measure, but since this is essentially the same as disabling the extension the problem really needs proper fixing. -- Porter21 (talk) 07:56, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Site help[]

Any chance you could take a look at Forum:Site help and get some feedback from the Curse techs? Provided it's doable, it'd establish some sort of "shared help" between the wikis and make things more convenient for newcomers. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:01, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Re: Admin rights[]

Thanks. :) Will try to do my best. Veryblackraven 09:32, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

The reason is fairly simple. While I certainly understand where you're coming from, armor and clothing in the Fallout series are mechanically the same type of item, worn in the same slot. You can't wear a fancy pre-War suit together with combat armor.

In Wasteland 2, clothing, armor, and radiation suits are mechanically three different types of items (well, six if you want to get technical). It makes more sense to have them divided into three articles with links in the lead section to each one. It also avoids implying that radiation suits are interchangeable with armor (or clothing with armor), which may be slightly confusing considering rad suits were mid-tier armor in Wasteland 2.
