Overview
These mods are used to convert initial damage type to another, allowing a weapon to benefit from various quirks, perks, skills, backgrounds and even armors. If you build your character properly, you can increase a weapon damage to incredible numbers by simply converting it to the damage type your character is built around. Weapons can be converted only to Fire, Cold, Energy and Explosive damage types. All weapons can be converted and only one conversion mod can be installed per weapon.
Rarity
These mods are quite rare. Each equipable mod may only be found once per game; otherwise, the respective recipe is located in (a) high level encounter(s) or require high level skills to extract from the game world.
Crafting
In spite of their sparse presence in the loot table, they have recipes and can thus be crafted. Beware that converting all weapons in your squad can be taxing, as their building materials are high-end bits and parts.
Usage warning
Even though some of these mods can be found early in the game, it is highly NOT recommended to waste them on low and mid tier weapons. Use them on tier 21+ weapons only. There are just few and very questionable exceptions though, such as the Rattler or MAC 17.
Damage types
- Fire damage
- Scales with Weird Science, maximum armor penetration, effective against organic targets (+30% Damage), ineffective against non-organic targets (-30% Damage), often has a chance to apply Burning (-15% CON per turn).
- Cold damage
- Scales with Weird Science, maximum armor penetration, effective against organic targets (+30% Damage), ineffective against non-organic targets (-30% Damage), often has a chance to apply Frozen (-4 AP and -4 AP (max)).
- Energy damage
- Scales with Weird Science, maximum armor penetration, effective against non-organic targets (+30% Damage), ineffective against organic targets (-30% Damage), often has a chance to apply Shocked (-10% CON per turn, -2 AP and -2 AP (max)).
- Explosive damage
- Scales with Explosives, maximum armor penetration, equally effective against any targets.
