The Wasteland canon is not publicly defined. This page breaks down the relations and assumptions used while working on this wiki.
Sources[]
The following sources are acknowledged as part of the series and form the basis for writing articles on this wiki. If conflicts arise, later releases take precedence.
- Wasteland and supplementary materials, such as the manual and paragraphs.
- The clue book is considered an auxiliary source, as the narrative within has been disregarded in subsequent games.
- Wasteland 2 and supplementary materials, such as the manual and novels (The Earth Transformed, Death Machines, and All Bad Things).
- Wasteland 3 and supplementary materials, such as the manual, Desert Rangers Wasteland Survival Guide, and novels (No Way Home, Ironclad, and Legend).
Any additional sources are useful for illustration and additional context. However, what's in the game takes absolute precedence.
Canon playthroughs[]
Every sequel is directly related to the preceding game and makes certain assumptions about how the previous game's story unfolded.
- Wasteland
- The canon party is Ranger Team Alpha consisting of Hell Razor, Angela Deth, Thrasher, and Snake Vargas.
- The Rangers killed Rex and shot Bobby Danforth.
- The Rangers recruited Ace and defeated Ugly.
- The Guardians of the Old Order were wiped out with only a handful of survivors.
- Base Cochise AI was defeated (obviously).
- The Rangers recruited Redhawk, Mort, Ralf, and VAX.
- Wasteland 2
This section is based primarily on No Way Home.
- Team Echo chose to save the ag center instead of Highpool.
- Team Echo chose to save Danforth's dogs and mend fences with the Red Skorpion Militia.
- Team Echo removed the Leather Jerks and restored law and order to Rodia.
- Team Echo supported Ascension McDade against Malediction Mayweather and Mistress Veronica, cleaning up Hollywood and bringing peace between it and the God's Militia.
- Snake Vargas stayed behind to blow up the Ranger Citadel and defeat the resurgent Base Cochise AI.
- Team Echo recruited Brother Thomas, Pistol Pete, Takayuki.
Other titles[]
While Fountain of Dreams was initially meant to be a sequel to Wasteland, Electronic Arts eventually dropped any such official references. Fallout was also meant to be a sequel, but Interplay did not have the rights to make it one, so the only official connection are several references to Wasteland throughout Fallout games. Other than that, they take place in separate fictional universes.
